Ecological-Industrial Park
The Londonderry Eco-Industrial Park brings together businesses that are interested in working together to maximize the economic success of their companies, while minimizing the impact of these businesses on Londonderry's environment. The park is located near the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. The Londonderry Park is one of only twenty proposed Eco-Industrial Parks in the world.
How an Eco-Park Works
In natural eco-systems, the by-products of each plant and creature provide essential materials for other members of the system. This same model can work for an industrial park.
One company's waste might be a useful material for another company in the park. For example, AES's cooling process uses 3 to 4 million gallon of waste water from the Manchester Treatment plant instead of potable water.
Resources and processes can be shared, such as refrigerated warehousing, recycling equipment, and heating and cooling systems. Joint purchasing and sales of common products is more efficient and cost effective.
Direct employee benefits include van pooling, day care, scenic lunch spots, and even nature trails through the park.
In addition to saving time and money for the companies involved, all of the above possibilities radically reduce the impact of industry on the local environment.
Presently, the Eco-Park is currently recruiting appropriate businesses for this innovative venture

Eco-Industrial Park: Vision Statement
Principles for the Londonderry Eco-Industrial Park
Vision Statement
The Eco-Park recognizes as its primary function developing systems and processes which minimize the impact of industry and business on the environment, improve the economic performance of the member companies and strengthen the local economy. Through modeling the Park's industrial systems on natural eco-systems, decreased environmental impact will be realized.
Sharing a Common Mission Through Long-term Partnerships
Eco-Park occupants will be guided by a common vision of sustainable development and will seek opportunities to promote synergistic and cooperative partnerships. Specific opportunities may include output from one process becoming feedstock for another, and seeking innovative methods for reducing materials usage.
Accountability
Accountability extends beyond legal requirements to product and land stewardship as well as open communications and responsiveness to all stakeholders. Park occupants are committed to activities such as ecological performance assessment to substantiate and report to stakeholders.
Striving for Continuous Improvement and Innovation
Eco-Park occupants are committed to the continuous improvement of processes and business practices. Setting and working toward far reaching goals provides opportunities to enhance a business's competitiveness as well as dramatically improve environmental performance.
Land Stewardship
The Eco-Park partnership recognizes a new relationship between people, land, local eco-systems and industrial development. The site will be developed so that the ecological integrity and biological diversity of the site will be enhanced.
Serving the Local Community
Generating local economic benefit and providing educational and outreach services to the region will be priorities. Economic benefit for the local community includes expanding the tax base, providing employment and worker training programs. Educational and outreach services include developing relationships with local schools and hosting educational presentations.
Serving One Another
Eco-Park occupants are committed to establishing high environmental standards in business practices, to cultivating positive relations with employees, and to working closely with the community. Occupants will consistently strive to increase their environmental awareness and to improve business practices. The Eco-Park partners will make their successes and failures known so that others can learn from their experiences.
