Manchester Airport Access Road Update
The Manchester Airport Access Road (MAAR) project is moving at an accelerated pace. NHDOT stated, at a NH Regional Infrastructure Forum, that the new timeline for the access road has been advanced by seven months to December 2011. In 2009, NHDOT was successful in getting ARRA funds to help advance the state's roadway project. The timetable for completion was then moved up from 2014 to 2012. Due to an unseasonably warm winter and a great spring and summer, the project’s timeline was moved even more. The MAAR has two goals; 1. Provide a new exit and roadway off of the F.E. Everett Turnpike into the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport; and, 2. Open up 1,000 acres of industrially zoned land in Londonderry to economic development opportunities. The Town of Londonderry is proud to unveil its new marketing brand and economic development website. www.thriveinlondonderry.com is the link to the new economic development website. This effort started back in March 2009. The town hired marketing consultant Gary O'Neil, O2-Generations of Creative Energy to help Londonderry establish a new brand and logo. The brand and logo was developed after many workshops with stakeholders in town, meeting with groups and individuals that interact and are major contributors to the region's economic development landscape. We also met with state leaders in order to get a comprehensive perspective on Londonderry's direction and contribution towards the region's economy. The culmination of all of this effort resulted in the above shown brand and logo, "Business is good. Life is better!" SilverTech, Inc. was hired to create a new economic development website. SilverTech will pull into the new site the marketing material created through the efforts of Gary O'Neil and the Community Development Department. The NHDOT Airport Access Road project is making terrific progress.
Thanks to the injection of ARRA funds, the timetable for completion has been moved up from 2014 to 2012. The main goal of the airport access road is to provide an exit off of the F.E. Londonderry proposes to upgrade Pettengill Road
Currently a class VI dirt roadway, the proposed improvements would upgrade Pettengill Road to a class V limited access minor arterial roadway. The project proposes to construct a four lane roadway (i.e. two lanes in either direction), a mile long and extend public infrastructure such as: water, sewer (including a sewer pump station), fiber optic and gas lines into this 1,000 acre area to stimulate business development. The project will include a sidewalk along the south side of the proposed roadway which will tie into the sidewalk system provided by the airport access road project. In 2003, the Community Development staff conducted a three-day Pettengill Road Design Charrette. The task of the charrette was to help Londonderry best use this scarce resource wisely. The charrette brought together professional from a variety of disciplines such as traffic engineers, civil engineers, landscape architects, building architects, planners, economics, agriculturalists, residents and property owners. This event gave our community leaders a solid vision of the development potential of this unique area (See development vision). The 1,000 acres of vacant land, opened up by the NHDOT's Access Road project, could support over 4 million square feet of commercial and industrial development and create 4,000 to 6,000 jobs at full build out. On October 30, 2009, Londonderry had the pleasure of participated in the grand opening of Hampshire First Bank located 68 Nashua Road, Londonderry. The new bank provides Londonderry residents, property owners and business community with another financial resource in town. A unique component of the new bank building is that it was constructed out of some of the lumber formerly of the old 1800's homestead barn located off of Buttrick Road. When the new Elliot Medical Facility-Dana Farber Institute was constructed, they carefully dismantled the historic barn preserving the lumber. The historic lumber was used as part of the construction on Hampshire First Bank's new facility.
